Waste Workshop

WWGN will be delivering a Waste Workshop for members of Geelong Otway Tourism on the 5th of March at Geelong Conference Centre. Participants will actively be part of a practical workshop evaluating their business resource efficiency and waste management processes and then planning for improvement.

Resilience & Sustainability

Following the last WWGN network event at the November Chamber After 5, WWGN have continued to work with the 07-08 Leaders for Geelong Project Group and Geelong Chamber of Commerce to assess how businesses can best be supported and assisted in the future to develop resilience and sustainability initiatives. Is your business WaterSecure?

Barwon Water has identified seven core non-residential sectors, each with unique requirements and water-saving opportunities.

- Commercial premises
- Food preparation
- Horticulture, agriculture and irrigation
- Manufacturing and industry
- Schools
- Tourism
- Washdown

Barwon Water has developed WaterSecure Business to help business customers reduce water use. For more information click here. This program is consistently being reviewed to ensure it meets customers needs. Businesses who use 10 megalitres of potable water or more, at any one site, are required to develop and submit a Water Management Action Plan (waterMAP) to their water corporation. Alcoa lead Clean up!

Congratulations to WW member Alcoa for taking the initiative to co-ordinate a "Business" Clean up Australia Day. Approximately 30 volunteers from Alcoa the local community and neighbouring businesses took part and collected 480kg or rubbish!!

Alcoa Point Henry Operations Manager Stewart Esdale said that Business Clean Up Australia Day was a great opportunity for Alcoa employees to come together and make a positive impact on the local community. “Protecting and preserving the environment is a core element of Alcoa’s commitment to sustainability.

This is a great example of extending sustainability initiatives beyond everyday workplace practice and processes.
