Triple Bin Challenge Clean Up Australia Chairman Ian Kiernan AO and Geelong MP Ian Trezise unveiled the new initiative known as the Triple Bin Challenge at Tate Street Primary School in Geelong on the 12th July. The Triple Bin Challenge teaches children to sort rubbish with colour-coded bins encouraging students to recycle. About 20 schools in the Geelong region are expected to take part in the Triple Bin Challenge. Mr Kiernan said the Triple Bin Challenge was an important new approach as it built on what Clean Up Australia did with the annual Clean Up Schools Day and also educated children on how to manage rubbish all year round. “Teaching children that there is value in rubbish is the challenge but it can be done and the Triple Bin Challenge makes recycling cool,” Mr Kiernan said. The guest speaker was Ian Kiernan, AO who is well known for his initiatives through Clean Up Australia. Mr Kiernan explained to the guests at the Waste Wise Geelong Network breakfast that "although we’re pretty good at reducing the waste we produce at home, when it comes to our workplace, 60% of us say we want to do more but only 11% actually do anything".
