Promoting Achievements - Lara PS
Congratulations to Lara PS for the following successes:

  • They have introduced a 4 bin system into each classroom and have now been able to cut their skips being emptied from 3 times back to 2 times a week - a savings of $30 a week!
  • Their cleaners used to empty each classroom bin every night equaling 150 large plastic bags a week, now they only empty them on a Friday so they are only using 25 bags now!!

Simple steps are having big results.

Waste Wise Tip

Include cleaners in the design and implementation of your Waste Wise practices. Cleaners can be asked not to empty individual waste bins as regularly (this saves money while also helping staff to understand how much waste they generate).

Cleaners can also be asked not to empty/collect some bins if recyclable or compostable items have been placed in them, while also identifying those who are doing a good job at recycling or minimising waste

Waste Wise Fact

Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) are an energy-saving alternative to incandescent bulbs—they produce the same amount of light, use one third of the electricity, and last up to ten times as long.
