Moriac Primary School
Sustainability Poem

Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish
Lying all around
Looking really messy
About our school ground.
Thinking, thinking,thinking,
Reduction is our goal,
Recycling is the simple key
And reuse our whole school role.
So when you pack your lunch next time
Be conscious of the need
To reduce the plastic wrappings
And success we will achieve

Junior Landcare Victorian Youth Environment Conference

August 4th and 5th 2009 - Lorne, Victoria

The Junior Landcare Victorian Youth Environment Conference is the culmination of a
process. Students prepare 40 minute workshops to present to their peers at the conference on an
environmental topic, relevant to their local area. This process involves students working with
expert mentors many months prior to the event, and results in children who are motivated, capable
public speakers, with self esteem and respect for others. Ultimately, this conference is about
protecting and enhancing our inland, marine and coastal environments, communities and industries
through education and involvement of the next generation of leaders.

 Schools Climate Kit
Clean Up Australia has developed the Schools Climate Kit which includes new and improved lesson plans that cover a range of important environmental issues.

Each lesson plan has a special PDF teacher's version as well as activity sheets, extended learning activities and additional resource links. There is also a state-based lesson plan especially for "Schools Clean Up Day", which outlines the curriculum objectives for your state.

The Schools Climate Kit http://www.cleanup.com.au/au/GetInvolved/schools-climate-kit.html will assist in teaching your class about the critical environmental issues that we face, but more importantly what we can do to conserve our environment.

Victorian Solar in Schools Initiative - 2008/2009 funding round now open
The Victorian Solar in Schools Initiative (VSiSI) is designed to complement the Australian Government’s National Solar Schools Program (NSSP) and maximise the funding opportunities for all Victorian schools to install photovoltaic grid-connected solar power systems. Victorian schools are eligible to apply for both the VSiSI and the NSSP.

Schools are encouraged to consider how these infrastructure funding programs support the implementation of sustainability in their schools through a holistic approach that incorporates infrastructure, curriculum, operations and school-community partnerships.

Schools need to complete separate application forms for the VSiSI and the NSSP.

Please remember that the VSiSI funding is a rebate paid after installation whereas the NSSP funding is paid up front.

For further information and to download the application package and schools application form visit www.resourcesmart.vic.gov.au and go to For educators > Rebates and grants.
