How to Organise a Waste Wise Event

It’s really easy if you plan ahead! There are 5 simple steps:

  • Step 1:
Getting Commitment and Improving on last year

Gaining Commitment of all your stakeholders is critical to achieving a Waste Wise Event. Once everyone understands and is committed to minimising waste, implementing the program is much easier.
  • Step 2:
Talking to your contractors about Setting up Bin Systems that Work

Bin systems that work are clearly signed, appropriately placed and easy to use. Clear signage and consistent messages about what should be placed in each recycling stream and the rubbish bin is another key component of a Waste Wise Event.
  • Step 3:
Talking to your Traders about Minimising and Recycling Packaging

Talk to your traders about the types of packaging they will be using at your event. By limiting the types of packaging used at your event, you will reduce your contamination rates, increasing your recycling and make everyone happier.
  • Step 4:
    Promoting your system with Patrons

You can further enhance the sustainable image of your event and reduce contamination costs by promoting appropriate behaviour by your patrons at the event.
  • Step 5:
    Learning to make improvements

This is a chance to get some figures to brag about and do some post event promotion to encourage people to come back next time. The Waste Wise Program is about continuous improvement, so finding out about opportunities to improve will be important for your next event.
